The Benefits of Hemp Oil – A Teen Girl’s Guide

Hemp oil seems to be everywhere and you hear so many people touting its benefits. Unfortunately, nearly all of the discussions focus on adult usage. But what about teen girls? Not only is it both safe and legal for teens to use, they can also enjoy the same benefits of hemp oil as adults.

What is Hemp Oil?

Hemp oil is a form of CBD oil and is derived from the hemp plant (canabis stavia). Unlike marijuana, it contains a very small amount of THC – usually less than 0.3%.  THC is the chemical that provides the high associated with marijuana. With hemp oil, you get some of the medicinal benefits of cannabis without the high.

Hemp oil comes in just about any form you can imagine: skincare and haircare products, soap, essential oils, lip balm, cold therapy rubs, vape tanks and even gummies. You can even eat it or add it to your smoothie! No matter which product you choose, be sure to buy a high quality product from a reputable source.

5 Benefits of Hemp Oil For Teen Girls

While the list of adult benefits of CBD oil is extensive, this post will focus on benefits specifically for teens. While there have not been a lot of scientific studies on the use of CBD oil, many believe it can help with the following problems.

Stress

It’s hard to be a teen. Between school, homework, sports, clubs, part time jobs, volunteering, and hanging with friends, there never seems to be enough time. (Don’t forget the SAT/ACT – it will only affect the rest of your life. At least that’s what it feels like!) Add in a boyfriend/girlfriend, parents and siblings, looming college decisions, the state of the world, and the future in general, and today’s teens are stressed!

Serotonin is a naturally occurring chemical in the body that helps regulate anxiety, moods, and happiness. Stress takes a toll on all three of these. Since hemp oil affects serotonin production, it can help make life seem a little less stressful.

Headaches & Migraines

Many teens, especially girls, suffer from headaches and migraines. In fact, 70% of migraine sufferers are female. According to one study, the most common migraine triggers include sleep deprivation, skipping meals, emotional stress, and menstruation. That pretty much sums up a teen girls’ life, doesn’t it?

Studies have shown that medical marijuana helps with migraine relief. While there have not been a lot of scientific studies on the use of hemp oil, many believe it not only helps to relieve migraine pain, but also prevents migraines as well.

PMS

Speaking of menstruation, the teen years are probably the worst for PMS symptoms. Ask any parent of a teen girl. 😄

Hemp oil can help with some of the symptoms of PMS – mood swings, cramps, headaches, breakouts, nausea and digestive issues, depression, irritability, lack of concentration, clumsiness, and bloating. (Did I miss anything? Isn’t it fun being a girl?)

CBD oils’ anti-inflammatory properties can help with cramps, bloating, and headaches, while the calming properties will help with the emotional tornado that’s raging inside your head.

Acne

As if PMS isn’t bad enough, you can always count on the accompanying breakouts. A PMS flareup can make you want to crawl under the blankets and never go out again. Or wonder why ski masks aren’t more popular?

Breakouts are due to four main causes: blocked pores, excess natural oils (sebum), inflammation, and bacteria. Hemp oil can help regulate the amount of natural oils your skin produces, plus it has both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. That means it will soothe your skin, without clogging it, and help stop future breakouts.

Healthier Hair

Teen girls love their long hair. Messy buns. Scrunchies. Braids. Or just loose. But, no matter the style, it needs to look good. It needs to look healthy.

Hemp oil’s balance of fatty acids can help make all that hair look great. It moisturizes your hair and scalp, but is also  quickly absorbed so you don’t get that greasy-too-much-conditioner look. Those same fatty acids also stimulate hair growth, and they strengthen the hair to prevent breakage.

There are lots of commercially available hemp oil shampoos (or you can try a DIY recipe) that will give you the Rapunzel mane of your dreams. Are you ready to be an Instagram hair celebrity?

This certainly is not an extensive list of the benefits of hemp oil, but I hope it’s given you some ideas on how it can help teens. When it comes to making the teen years easier, every little bit can help. As always, please remember that I am not a medical professional. I’m just someone that is interested in finding things that make life better. So, please do your own research and talk to your doctor.
